The County Administrative Board advises visitors not to enter Slätmossen-Borgberget Nature Reserve. Dead spruces can fall suddenly and without warning. Due to the risk of accidents, the path is closed until further notice and will not be maintained.
This reserve has suffered extensive infestation by the spruce bark beetle. As a result, many spruce trees have died and will eventually fall. The bark beetles attack living spruces and then leave the trees. So the dead trees do not contain any spruce bark beetles. However, dead trees are important for many other animals, mosses and lichens that live in the forest. Dead trees are therefore left in the reserve for the sake of biodiversity.
Beskrivelse
A visitor parking lot by the entrance to section 5:3 of the Sörmlandsleden trail. Follow the trail north to reach the Österby nature reserve. Walk south on the trail to get to Slätmossen–Borgberget nature reserve.
There's an informational sign about the reserve at the parking lot.

The parking lot is on Hemfosavägen road, about 1 km west of the Hemfosa commuter rail station.
Forskrifter
In order to protect the Slätmossen-Borgberget and Österby nature reserves, please respect the following rules.
Within the reserves, it is forbidden to:
- drill, cut, blast, carve, dig, paint or in any other way damage rock, soil or stone,
- break branches, fell or in any other way damage living or dead trees and bushes,
- dig up plants such as shrubs, herbaceous plants, mosses or lichens, or remove fungi growing on wood,
- operate motorised vehicles.
