Beskrivelse
For those who find it too crowded in Stenshuvud National Park Link to another website. the Västra Stenshuvud reserve may offer an alternative. In the reserve, which borders the national park, you will find a mostly untouched beech forest with low visitor pressure.
The area has been covered with beech forest since at least the 18th century. However, some parts of the beech forest are more open, and cairns and other ancient remains indicate that the land has been used by humans.
Västra Stenshuvud has a significant proportion of coarse trees and there is plenty of dead wood - which benefits biodiversity. The field layer is predominantly sparse and dominated by grove-like vegetation with species such as wood anemone, yellow anemone and toothwort.
Rörum's northern river flows through the southern part of the reserve. Around the river you will find wetter land with floodplain forest.

**Within the area, special rules and restrictions apply to the right of public access.
For example, it is forbidden to:
- keeping a dog unleashed
- drive a motorized vehicle
- ride a bicycle
- riding or driving a horse
It is important to note that this is only a selection of the rules.
Full regulations for visitors
In addition to regulations and prohibitions in other laws and regulations, it is forbidden to:
- put up a notice board, sign, inscription, poster or similar,
- carry out any form of construction or set up objects foreign to the reserve,
- drive a motor vehicle or bicycle,
- ride or drive a horse,
- bring a dog other than on a physical leash.
Furthermore, it is forbidden without the permission of the County Administrative Board:
6. catch insects, spiders, shells or other invertebrates other than by scooping, hand picking or other selective method with subsequent release within the nature reserve. The requirement for re-release does not apply to single specimens of each species, provided that the findings are registered in the Species Portal or equivalent national database for species and that the collection does not violate the conservation regulations,
7. collect mosses, lichens or woody fungi, with the exception of single specimens, provided that the collection does not violate the conservation rules.
