Beskrivelse
Södra Lökaröd nature reserve is located on a gentle slope down towards Hörrödsån. The area is dominated by deciduous swamp forest, but its greatest natural values are to be found in the flower-rich fen and in the surrounding wet meadow.
Old meadows
The area is located in a settlement that has long been used by man. For a long time, virtually the entire current reserve area was covered by meadowland, but in the mid-20th century, the grazing ceased and the area began to grow again, mainly with alder and birch.
Flower-rich land
There is a small rich marsh in the reserve. Rich bogs are mineral-rich marshes that harbor a special and species-rich flora. Since the 19th century, many rich marshes have disappeared as a result of drainage and overgrowth, but Södra Lökaröd's rich marsh has survived partly because it was adjacent to a power line that was regularly cleared and later thanks to the resumption of mowing by committed landowners. As a result of these efforts, the fen is still home to plants such as buttercup, corn vetch, mayweed and marsh marigold. The flower-rich soils are home to a number of butterfly species, including the rare species of silverwing, sooty moth and six-spotted swallowtail.
Wet meadow and swamp forest
Adjacent to the bog is a shrub-rich wet meadow with, among other things, cuckoo flowers and meadowsweet. However, most of the reserve consists of deciduous swamp forest. The amount of dead wood is relatively high despite the fact that the forest is young and the great spotted woodpecker forages in the area.
Hörrödsån
Hörrödsån, with its clear water, flows next to the reserve. Among other things, the red-listed water ant lizard lives here. Along the river you will also find a stand of water primrose.
In English
Welcome to Södra Lökaröd Nature Reserve
In the reserve there is a small fen. A fen is a mineral-rich bogland that houses a species-rich flora. Here you will, among other things, find the implanted and endangered Large-flowered Sticky Eyebright as well as Globeflowers, Bird's-eye Primrose, Western Marsh-orchid and Marsh Helleborine. The flower-rich fields are home to a number of butterfly species like the rare Silver-spotted Skipper, False heath Fritillary and Six-spot Burnet.
Adjacent to the fen is a wet meadow, but the greater part of the reserve consists of a carr, a waterlogged wooded terrain. Even though the forest is young, the proportion of dead wood is relatively high and the Great Spotted
Woodpecker can be found foraging in the area.
Next to the reserve, the Hörröd stream flows with its clear water. The red-listed stream lacewing, Osmylus fulvicephalus, resides in the stream. Along the river bank, you will also find a stock of French Meadow-rue.
