Beskrivelse

Nackarp Nature Reserve is located on the outskirts of Röstånga and borders Söderåsen National Park. East of the highway are grazed pastures with wide-crowned oaks and in the west is a high-stemmed beech forest. The reserve is geologically interesting because of the strange cone-shaped hills visible from the highway. A cycle and footpath runs through Nackarp's pastures up on an old railway embankment. The disused railway now allows you to cycle and walk between Röstånga and Skäralid, both with entrances to Söderåsen National Park.

Ruins of mountains

In the northern part of the reserve, the old highway makes a few sharp bends through an area of jagged hills, which have caused some headaches among geologists. The hills have a core of highly fractured and weathered rock. They seem to have been left alone to weather for a very long time and the question is why they didn't erode away during the last ice age. The theory is that the valleys of Söderåsen were then protected from the land ice by a layer of packed snow.

Rich beech forest

The soil on the hills is nutrient-rich and a herb-rich beech forest grows here. The spring flora includes wood anemone, yellow anemone and lungwort. A little later on, toothwort and yellow thistle bloom. The yellow thistle is a real character species for a slightly richer beech forest. In the southern part of the reserve, the beech forests are of a leaner type with sparse vegetation. Here grow, among other things, creeping thistle and squirrelberry, a relative of lily of the valley. The beech forest is managed by thinning and the goal is a diverse, transparent forest where the unique hills appear.

Grazed pastures

The pastures east of the highway are home to stately, wide-crowned oaks and beeches. Rare lichens such as sooty lichen and yellow-powdered spike lichen grow on the bark of the large oaks. There are also interesting species among the fungi, such as the unusual giant comb fungus. It is associated with oak and beech and grows in light-open environments where there have been large deciduous trees for a long time.

The pastures in the reserve are part of the old Nackarp homestead. Until the 1800s, the pastures were used as meadows where hay was harvested. When the haymaking was over, the animals were let out to graze.

Outdoor life

A cycle and walking path runs on an old railway embankment through Nackarp nature reserve. The reserve is located on the outskirts of Röstånga and borders Söderåsens national park Link to another website.. Along the disused old railroad, you can see Nackarp's hilly pastures with their wide-crowned old oaks. Start your tour with a visit to the national park entrance in Röstånga or the nature center in Skäralid. The cycle and walking trail runs between Röstånga and Skäralid. Remember to take your rubbish home.

In English

Welcome to Nackarp Nature Reserve

The nature reserve borders the Söderåsen National Park. To the east of the main road you will find grazed pastureland with wide-crowned oaks and an interesting flora of fungi and lichen. To the west is a tall beech forest. The reserve has an interesting geology due to the remarkable cone shaped hills close to the rest area in the north. The hills have a core of severely cracked and crumbling rock. They seem to have been untouched for a very long period, and the question is why they did not erode during the last ice age. The theory is that the river valleys at Söderåsen were protected from the land ice by packed snow.
