Beskrivelse

The Löddeån estuary nature reserves (north and south) are located on both sides of Löddeån, right where the river meets the sea in Lommabukten. Here, salt and fresh water meet - in a mosaic of well-grazed meadows and dense reed beds. The variation makes the area a paradise for birds and birdwatchers alike. At the same time, you get direct contact with history. The Lödde tub is the remains of a Viking harbor. And the sea wall that runs along the coast is a several thousand year old Litorina rampart. At the mouth of the Löddeån river (south) there are bird towers and walking paths with rest areas. You are welcome to visit these all year round. But please respect the fact that there are no-entry areas during spring and early summer when there are eggs and young birds out in the fields.

News - more birds with increased surveillance

Increased enforcement has led to fewer people being in no-entry areas and more birds successfully nesting. In nature reserves such as the Löddeån estuary, access is prohibited during spring and early summer so that the area's ground-nesting birds are not scared away from their eggs and chicks. Despite this, people have stayed here to fish, watch birds or walk their dogs. With increased supervision and fines of up to SEK 10,000, awareness of the trespassing ban has increased and spread, which has positive effects on wildlife.

Valuable bird area all year round

Many different types of birds nest in the meadows and reed beds at the mouth of the Lödde River. Some that have nests and chicks in spring-summer are oystercatcher, spoonbill, brown harrier, water rail, lapwing, redshank and bearded tit. North of the river, in some years, avocets, greater sandpipers and little terns also nest. In the fall, a large number of plovers, geese and ducks rest in the area, as well as many snipe and curlews. Snow buntings and winter wrens are often seen in winter.

Well-grazed meadows and dense reed beds

There is great variation in the grazed coastal meadows. There are both dry and wet areas, and areas affected by salt and fresh water. The varied pastures, together with the reed beds, contribute to the rich bird life.

Port from the Viking Age

In the sea outside the mouth of the Lödde River lies Lödde Kar. It is probably the remains of a Viking Age port facility from around 950-1100. The stone and timber construction is 160 x 8 meters. This is probably where large, deep-draught ships were reloaded into smaller boats for further transportation up the Lödde River. About 30 meters of the Lödde tub is visible above the water surface.

Several thousand years old embankment

Along the coastline there is a marked sea wall, a Litorina wall. It was formed around 7000 years ago when the sea along our coast was called the Litorina Sea and the sea surface was several meters higher than today. Several seawalls along our coasts were formed at this time.

Outdoor recreation and accessibility

Löddeån flows into Lommabukten just north of Bjärred. North of the estuary is the nature reserve Löddeåns mynning-norra Link to another website.. And south of the estuary is Löddeåns mynning-södra. Both reserves are good birdwatching locations, but the southern one is more accessible. Here in the southern reserve there is both a bird tower and a platform. They are located about 200 meters from the parking lot at Löddesnäs. The bird tower is located out in the open, grazed meadows. The platform is located in the reed area with a trespassing ban. You can always reach the platform by walking on the ramp that leads out here. There is also an accessible toilet at the Löddesnäs parking lot. An easy walking path runs along the coast, from Löddesnäs and further down to the parking lot in the south at Bjärehovs brygga. The land here is not grazed but kept open by mowing. There are picnic areas with fireplaces along the walk. Remember to bring your own charcoal or firewood and to take your rubbish home. The nearest bus stop is Bjärred Trollsjövägen, which is about 500 meters from the walk.

If you want to walk between the two nature reserves, we recommend that you follow Skåneleden (SL5 Öresund, stages 10 and 11) which runs just outside the area. If you follow the Skåneleden trail further north, you will come to another nature reserve, Salvikens strandängar Link to another website..

**NOTE: During spring and summer it is forbidden to be in the areas with reeds, when the birds have their nests and chicks there. But you are always welcome to walk on the ramp leading out to the platform in this area. The bird tower, on the other hand, is outside the no-entry zone. Areas where access is prohibited are marked in reserve sign Pdf, 429.4 kB, opens in new window.

In Lomma municipality's brochure "Guide to nature in Lomma" Pdf, 6.3 MB, opens in new window. there is more information about accessibility and facilities for outdoor life in the municipality's reserves and nature areas.
