Beskrivelse
400 years ago, Lillö was a stately five-storey white castle. Today it is an exciting ruined castle along the Linnérundan trail. Behind the walls, sounds, light and objects give a hint of medieval life on Lillö.
When you stand in the courtyard and look out over the landscape, it is like looking back in history. Everywhere you turn, open wetlands spread out. The coastal meadows around Lillö are a living cultural landscape. For centuries, people and grazing animals have kept the land open. Grazing and haymaking have produced a rich plant and bird life.
In summer the river flows quietly, in winter it spreads out over Isternäset. In early summer, wading birds play over the meadows. In the fall and winter, geese rest in the wetlands and white-tailed eagles hunt for food along the river.
At Lillö there is a jetty where you can fish or moor your boat.
Life on Lillö
From the outside, the castle ruins are almost bland. It is when you step inside that it becomes exciting. Borrow a key at naturum Vattenriket. When your eyes get used to it, the castle's basement vault appears. Sound and light effects make it easy to imagine life and movement from the kitchen and fireplace.
The first castle was built in the 13th century. The wetlands, moat and Helge å made Lillö easy to defend. Since then it has burned, been razed and rebuilt several times as Danish landowners defended the Danish kingdom against the Swedes.
There were troubled times, but most days it was everyday life. The exhibition "Life on Lillö" shows copies of objects found in the moat. The objects tell of everyday chores. In 1658, peace was signed and the Danes lost Skåne. Lillö was reduced to ruins for the last time.
