Kvärlöv, Naturreservat

Kvärlöv nature reserve is a municipal nature reserve that runs along the eastern side of the Saxån river. A path takes you through the open areas of the reserve, which in summer boasts cowslips, almond blossom and yellow moon. There is also a rich bird life in the area.

Newly formed pasture and wetland

Kvärlöv's nature area consists of land that was previously completely cultivated. When the West Coast Railway was built, a nature reserve was created between the railway and the Saxån river. The former arable land was then replaced by wetland and pasture.

Some of the open areas of the reserve have a rich flora with plants such as cowslip, bluebell, almond blossom and yellow moon. A border of trees and shrubs grows along the Saxån river and there is a rich bird life here.

Outdoor life

Along the Saxån river is a 2.5 km path that leads you through the reserve. The nature is varied and the dense vegetation along the river provides pleasant shade during the summer months. If you don't want to go back the same way, there is a circular walk, 6 km, which takes you back to the starting position on gravel roads. There are also benches and tables in the area if you need a break. Remember to take your trash home with you. The reserve can be reached from the north via a tunnel under the Västkustbanan and from the south via Södra Kvärlövsvägen. From the train station in Dösjebro, about 5 km south of the reserve, you can follow the old railway embankment, which is now a pedestrian and cycle path.

Kvärlöv's nature area is a nature reserve in Landskrona municipality. The reserve is situated between the towns of Saxtorp and Kvärlöv and covers an area between the river Saxån and the railroad.

Almost all of the nature reserve was once covered by farmland. When the railroad was constructed the area between it and Saxån became a nature reserve. What was once farmland was replaced by pastures and wetlands.

In some of the open areas of the reserve you can come across flowers such as cowslip, bluebells, meadow saxifrage and lady's bedstraw. Along the river grows a thin strip of forest where many of the common Swedish birds thrive.
