Kustheden Nyhamnsläge-Lerhamn, Naturreservat

In Nyhamnsläge-Lerhamn you can follow the Skåneleden trail through an open coastal moor characterized by wind, sea and grazing. Otherwise, roam freely on the stone beach and heath. Look out for the Iron Age stone ring and keep an eye out for bell frogs and salamanders in the small pools of water.

Open coastal heath

The wind, the sea and animal grazing have created the open heaths with the windswept shrubs of sloe, rosehip and elder. Here, dry, open heaths glowing with the yellows and purples of yellow poppies, tansy and thyme are mixed with wet meadows and small pools of water. Plants that tolerate salt grow closest to the sea, such as saltwort and marsh marigold. The small water bodies are home to both salamanders and frogs.

Wide shingle fields

Wide pebble fields have been created by the sea processing material from the local bedrock of sandstone, limestone and shale. The stones have been ground soft and round by rubbing and rolling against each other in the waves of the sea. They now lie on the beaches in different embankments, showing how the sea level has varied over time.

Bird life

Bird life in the reserve is rich and along the coast you can often see shelducks, oystercatchers, redshanks and lapwings. In the bushes, yellow sparrows, magpies, avocets and warblers can be found.

Remains from the Bronze Age

There are also some ancient remains in the reserve. Among other things, there is a ring of judges that was added during the Iron Age and a couple of burial mounds from the Bronze Age.

Outdoor life

The coastal heath in Nyhamnsläge - Lerhamn extends about 2 km along the coast of the Kulla peninsula. Here you can roam freely on the pebble beach and the heath. Look for the bullfrog ring and keep an eye out for bell frogs and salamanders in the small pools of water. Skåneleden (SL5 Öresund, stage 4) goes through the reserve and further if you want a longer hike. Parking is available in the northern part of the reserve and the nearest bus stop is Krapperup Lerhamnsvägen which is a few hundred meters to the east. Remember to take your rubbish home.
