Kronovalls Store vång, Naturreservat

For many centuries, the area around Kronovall Castle has been used for grazing and haymaking. This has created the rich floral splendor found in Kronovalls Store vång. Here you will find cat's foot, maidenhair fern and haymaker's broom - flowers that have their origins in the thousand-year-old cultural landscape that makes up our meadows and pastures.

Extensive pastures

The Kronovalls Store vång nature reserve consists of a mosaic-like pasture with bush-covered hills and open pastures. In the sparse broadleaf forest there is an almost park-like landscape with glades and old, wide-crowned trees. The large, old lime trees are particularly valuable.

Leaf frog playground

In early summer, when the many flowering hawthorn bushes glow white, the pasture is full of life. Tree frogs play in the ponds around the nature reserve. They make their home in the bushy areas for the rest of the year. The magpie likes to nest in the hawthorn bushes and the starling flies in shuttle traffic between its nest in the old oak and the open fields where it finds food.

Fallen giants

Here and there a fallen giant tree rests. It is now doing its last, but perhaps most important, task as a home and food for wood-living insects and fungi. Trees that remain in the forest for their entire life are important for biodiversity and benefit insects and birds.

Outdoor recreation

There are two marked trails that take you around the reserve, the yellow (2.6 km) and the red (2 km). The paths go through some wetter parts where coarser shoes or boots are recommended, especially along the yellow path. If you walk through the slightly wetter marsh areas, keep an eye out for the greater newt that thrives there. In the southwestern part of the reserve there is an old ruin surrounded by small fields, probably a croft once stood there. There is a parking lot adjacent to the reserve and the nearest bus stop is Fågeltofta väg 19, about 2.2 km north. Remember to show consideration for the grazing animals. **OBS: The trails in this and several other reserves have been damaged by previous high water flows and storms and are still difficult to access in places. We are trying to fix this as soon as we can, but the work is extensive and takes a long time. We regret this.

Welcome to Kronovalls Store vång Nature Reserve

Store Vång is an undulating pastureland, home to a large diversity of flora and fauna. A couple of marked circular trails help you find your way around the extensive pasture. Part of the area is moist or wet. Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended, depending on the time of year. The shorter circular route is on drier land.

Early marsh-orchid, lousewort, mountain everlasting and wolf's bane are some examples of the rich pasture flora. The beautiful green European tree frog thrives in the abundant shrubbery. To the south is a

grazed broad-leaved deciduous forest with giant oaks. Here and there you'll find coarse, tall beech stumps, overgrown with bracket fungi. Old and dead trees are valuable habitats for insects, lichen and fungi.

Regulations

Within the grounds of the reserve it is forbidden to:

• damage fixed natural objects or surface formations,
• camp or park caravans, campers or similar,
• erect objects alien to the nature reserve,
• bring dogs or other pets unless on a lead,
• put up notice boards, placards, posters, signs, trail-marking strips or similar, except for information and nature reserve signs and boundary markers,
• deliberately disturb wildlife.

Without permission from the County Administrative Board it is furthermore forbidden to:

• collect wild animals, e.g. insects, spiders, molluscs and other invertebrates, or pick wood-living fungi.
