Handlinger

Beskrivelse

Göingeåsen is a mountain ridge south of Hässleholm. The reserve is dominated by deciduous forest, but there are also elements of coniferous forest and pasture. The broadleaf forest consists mainly of beech, oak and hornbeam. From the viewpoint Spraglerödshall you have a view of Finjasjön and Hovdalafälten. The Skåneleden trail and two trails linked to Hovdala pass through the area. Hovdala Castle, which is a couple of kilometers away, is a hub for several different hiking trails.

View and deciduous forest on Göingeåsen

Past old oak groves, through low-lying wetlands and alpine meadows, the Tormestorpsån river winds through the nature reserve. East of the river, the rock face of Spraglerödsbranten and the rocky slopes of Göingeåsen rise up, covered with deciduous forest. A whole world of lichens, mosses, fungi and insects live in the old trees.

Beech forest that was grazed in the 19th century

For centuries, beech forests have grown on these rocky slopes. But in the 18th and 19th centuries, the beech forests of Göingeåsen did not look like today's high-stemmed pillared halls. It was a more light and open forest with clearings that were grazed by the farmers' animals. In the summer, cows, sheep and goats grazed here, and in the winter the pigs were let out into the forest to eat their fill of beech and acorns. Nowadays, other animals, such as wild boar and jays, eat the acorns.

Unspoiled forest on the slopes

On the rocky slopes, the forest has been left to age. Old, coarse trees with decaying wood are a scarce commodity in today's forests and at the same time a must for thousands of species of insects, wood fungi, lichens, cavity-nesting birds and bats. The wood fungus lichen tick is a key species in our beech forests because it creates rotten wood in living trees. The decaying wood can then become a habitat for unusual insects, such as the blue-black brown beetle.

The aim is that the rest of the reserve will eventually have the same high natural values as the forest in Spraglerödsbranten - a deciduous forest with glades, trees of different ages and plenty of dead wood. The spruce plantations will gradually be replaced by deciduous forest, and then time and the snowflake will do much of the conservation work.

Outdoor life

As the name suggests, the nature reserve is located on Göingeåsen south of Hässleholm. Right next to the reserve is the community of Tormestorp and a little further away is Finjasjön. Göingeåsen, like the nature reserve Hovdala Link to another website, is part of a larger hiking area with Hovdala Castle as its hub. Trails that pass through the reserve are: Skåneleden (SL2 north to south stages 4 and 5), Hovdalaleden (57 km) and Höjdarnas höjdarled (22 km). Göingeåsen has two nice viewpoints and two rest areas. The centrally located campsite has a shelter, barbecue area and toilet. Right next to it is the parking lot. The nearest bus stop is Tormestorp Spraglerödsvägen. Remember to bring charcoal if you are going to barbecue and to take your rubbish home.

In English

Welcome to Göingeåsen Nature Reserve

Enjoy trails and viewpoints in Göingeåsen. A Nature Reserve with old woodlands and stony slopes.

Old oak woodlands

The river Tormestorpån winds its way past old oak woodlands, through low-lying wetlands and alder carrs. East of the river there is a steep cliff wall which rises up as well as stony slopes, clad in old growth broadleaved woodland.

Inhabitants of the old trees

The woodland has been left to grow old on the stony slopes. Large, old trees with decaying wood are a rare site in the modern, heavily exploited forestry landscape, but are essential to thousands of species of insects, wood-decaying fungi, lichens, hole-nesting birds and bats.

The wood-decaying tinder bracket fungus is a key species in our beech woodlands because it creates decaying wood in living trees. The decayed wood can then become a home for rare insects such as the beetle Melandrya caraboides.

Woodland with great potential

The aim is that the rest of the nature reserve will in the long term gain the same high nature conservation values as the woodlands on the steep slopes; broadleaved woodland with glades, trees of different ages and lots of dead wood. The spruce plantations will slowly be replaced by deciduous woodland, after which time and the tinder bracket fungus will do the majority of the nature conservation work.
