Eslövs allmänning, Naturreservat

In the south-western part of Eslöv is the municipal nature reserve Eslövs allmänning. Here, in the deciduous forest, you can see many stones and boulders that were transported here during the Ice Age. Many bird species thrive in the forest and insects such as the oak bark beetle and the red-listed, unusual club-horned beetle live in the dead wood. There are several paths in the area that make it easy to get around.

Geologically interesting reserve

Parts of Eslöv's common became a nature reserve as early as 1919, and for a while there was even talk of the area being set aside as a national park because of its geological values. The area is where the blocky northeast moraine meets the clay-rich Baltic moraine - both brought to the area by the ice sheet.

Today dominated by forest

Since the original nature reserve was established, the area has become overgrown with mainly oak trees. Today, many of our more common bird species thrive in the forest, including a large robin colony. The presence of dead wood in the reserve is favorable for wood-living insects and, among other things, oak bark beetle and the red-listed club-horned beetle have been found in the reserve. In the more open areas around the water tower, you may see one of the four bat species that forage in the reserve.

The field layer is relatively sparse, but in the spring, carpets of wood anemones and swallow-wort spread out.

Outdoor life

In this urban nature reserve there are nice trails that lead you around the area. There are also two hiking trails through the reserve. A hiking trail of 4.5 km, which is part of the so-called park walk that takes you to several different parks in Eslöv. And Hälsans stig, a lovely loop of 6 km in a varied environment with every kilometer marked out.
