Beskrivelse
Djurholmamossen is located high up on Hallandsåsen and is a marshland area where you can enjoy silence and privacy. Out on the open bog, the grouse play in the spring.
A bog on Hallandsåsen
The Djurholmamossen nature reserve protects open mosses, laggkärr, coniferous and deciduous swamp forests on Hallandsåsen. It is a real wilderness where you meet few people and where you can enjoy the tranquillity of the forest. Out on the bog, bell heather grows and in the open marshes, marsh lily blooms. Cloudberries and cranberries also grow here.
Bird spot with black grouse
As a bird site, Djurholmamossen is best known for being one of the few remaining grouse playing sites in Skåne. Other typical birds for the habitat type, such as snipe, woodcock, crane and capercaillie, also occur in the reserve. In the more wooded parts of the area, there are, among other things, skylark and sparrow owl.
Dragonflies and butterflies
Many different dragonfly species thrive in the moist environment with its many open marshes. The butterfly fauna includes the marsh fritillary butterfly, sedge fritillary butterfly and meadow fritillary butterfly.
Outdoor life
Djurholmamossen is part of the Djurholmen hiking area, which is managed by the Skånska Landskap Foundation. There are three marked trails here. The two shorter trails are 1.5 km long. The longer, Mossestigen, which is 3.8 km long, takes you through parts of the reserve. The trail goes along a ravine with small waterfalls and further out on the bog. On the open bog there is an eight-metre high lookout tower where you can watch the wildlife in the area. In the hiking area there is a picnic area, barbecue areas and a number of cultural monuments to look at. Remember to bring charcoal if you are going to barbecue and to take your rubbish home. There is a parking lot adjacent to the reserve, where there is also a toilet. The nearest bus stop is Hjärnarp Torget, which is about 10 km from the area to the southwest.
