Bökenäset, Naturreservat

Handlinger

Beskrivelse

Another reserve where the flag of the fungus flies high. At the northern end of Lake Oppmannasjön, Bökenäset is one of the most species-rich locations for soil fungi in Europe. Here you can find at least 45 red-listed species, with the rose fungus, which is extremely rare in the Nordic countries, as the brightest shining diamond. Come also for the large and continuous broadleaf woodland with yellow woodruff, blue woodruff, yellowhammer and fern as prominent species, between the trees rushes the woodpecker, nuthatch and lesser spotted woodpecker.

Beech forest with long continuity

Bökenäset's broadleaf forest is dominated by beech and contains only small areas of spruce forest. Many of the beech trees in the reserve are over 100 years old. However, the area has been forested for much longer than that. The General Staff map from 1869 shows that the area was already covered with deciduous forest. The field layer varies across the reserve, but yellow columbine, blue columbine, yellow plister and fern are prominent species.

Unique fungal flora

After a lowering of Lake Oppmannasjön in the late 1800s, new, calcareous soil was exposed. This, combined with the long continuity of the deciduous forest, has laid the foundation for a very rich fungal flora in the area. Bökenäset is one of the most species-rich locations for soil fungi in Europe, and there are at least 45 red-listed species here. Green tick, emperor spider mite and fiddlehead fern are among the rarities of the reserve, but there is also the rose fungus, which is extremely rare in the Nordic countries.

Bird life

Bökenäsets nature reserve is home to, among other things, nuthatches, stonechats and lesser spotted woodpeckers. Many ducks and geese rest on Oppmannasjön.
