On a small hill next to Yxeltorpaviken, west of Stegeborg, you will find Skällvik Castle ruins. An exciting place with an irregular collection of building remains with intermediate wall remains, a gate to the east and remains of a baking oven. Thanks to the non-profit association Skällviks Borgs Vänner, the castle ruins have been made accessible with stairs and cleared paths. The association works actively to bring to life and promote the preservation of a piece of Swedish history. The castle ruins are located in a pasture with beautiful landscape views towards Slätbaken and Stegeborg's castle ruins.

Fakta
The history of the defense facility Skällviks borg is not long but still interesting and also with strong links to the early history of Stegeborg. During its time, it was owned alternately by bishops and the royal power. Biskopsgården Skällviks gård is first mentioned in writing in 1287, but it was probably between 1318 and the second half of the 14th century that the farm was fortified, as Stegeborg lay in ruins in the aftermath of Nyköpings Gästabud. At the end of the 14th century, Stegeborg was rebuilt and Skällviksborgen lost all its importance. Building materials were brought from Skällvik to Stegeborg. In 1902, architect Lundberg had the castle emptied of rubble and at the same time drew a plan of the site. Two archaeological excavations were carried out in 1902 and 2016.
Veibeskrivelse
From Söderköping: Follow signs towards Stegeborg, just before Stegeborg follow a small blue sign "1,5 Skällviks borg" to the left onto a narrow gravel road by two yellow houses. Drive about 1 km and stop at the designated parking lot. Continue on foot on the same road you came about 500 meters to the ruin.
If you are hiking on Östgötaleden/Stegeborgsslingan you can take a detour from the trail.
