Näs, Naturreservat

In Näs you will find dramatic mountain slopes, large boulders and great views. There is a path that leads you up the mountain where you can look out over the forest and landscape. If you want, you can try to squeeze through the narrow crevice Trånggatan on the way up.

Outdoor life

In Näs, you can hike through the forest and enjoy the view from the heights. Bring your picnic basket and look for birds on the shores of Lake Skedvisjön. From the gravel road that runs through the reserve, a path leads to Trånggatan. Trånggatan is a narrow crevice in the rock that is large enough for a slender adult person to just get through. If you don't want to pass through Trånggatan, there is a small path at the side so you can get up the mountain. At the top of the mountain you have a beautiful view of the cliff and the surrounding forest.

In the area you can see traces of how people used the forest in older times. There are coal beds and the ruins of a coal hut. Coal bunkers are the remains of charcoal kilns where charcoal was made in the past. The person who kept the charcoal kiln from burning lived in the charcoal hut.

Nature

In the western part of the nature reserve, a steep and spectacular mountain slope rises. Large boulders have been broken away from the mountain, creating caves and crevices. In one of the caves grows light moss, a 'luminescent' moss that reflects the daylight that falls in. It has only been found here and in one other place in the county.

The forest consists of old coniferous forest with many dead trees, both those still standing and trunks lying on the ground. Many insects and mosses like the dead trees, such as the green shield moss. There are also some unusually old and large aspens in the forest. Aspen feather moss, lung lichen and large aspen tick grow on the aspens.
