Mårsätter, Naturreservat

Mårsätter Nature Reserve is a wild and mountainous old-growth forest area in Tylöskogen, the forest area that connects Tiveden in the west and Kolmården in the east. From the small parking lot, there is a seven-kilometer hiking trail around the reserve. There is also a shorter loop of four kilometers.

Difficult paths and risk of falling trees

In the nature reserve there are areas with many dead spruces that have fallen or are at risk of falling. Avoid walking there in strong winds. Visits are at your own risk. In these parts, the paths can be difficult to access as we do not have the resources to clear the paths at the rate that the trees fall.

View towards Lake Vättern

Mårsätter is a nature reserve full of contrasts. From an open agricultural landscape, you quickly end up in a wilderness area with old-growth forest and magical lakes. Follow the path that leads you up to the highest points Tosjö klint or Mårsättersberget, from where you have a nice view of the farmland and Vättern in the distance. The sometimes demanding hike follows mossy paths through pine forests and over lichen-rich rocky areas and narrow crevice valleys. Traces of forest fires can be seen in some places along the trail.

Red water lilies

In the reserve, the two water lily-covered lakes Tosjön and Svartgölen are like black mirrors in the green forest. There is a good chance you will see capercaillie or hear the chirping call of the tufted titmouse up in the pine tops. Among the plant life are unusual species such as the woodland bell and the orchid green night violet. Several threatened lichens and mosses have also been found in the area. Some of them are: small pale spike, green shield moss, candelabra mushroom, border tick, crossed mushroom beetle.
