The island is the most populated of all Haparanda's islands and there is a rich leisure life here with both cottage owners and many visitors.
From Haparandahamn it is 7.5nm and from Seskarö 4.8nm to Hanhinkari.

There are barbecue areas and toilets at the municipal pier.
On the northern part of Hanhinkari is Haparanda Boat Club's clubhouse, which is open to all visitors during the summer and is also used by the islanders for meetings and gatherings.
There is a nice walking path around the island that leads past a labyrinth. The northern part of Hanhinkari consists of beautiful open forest that becomes denser further south on the island.
