Beskrivelse
For the spring of 2024, this bird tower was built by Växjö municipality. The project has been partly financed with LONA grants mediated by the County Administrative Board of Kronoberg. Up in the tower there are benches and information about the bird life, which makes the visit comfortable together with a coffee.
Lake Dällingen in Dädesjö is about 68 hectares in size and drains north towards Drättingesjön. At one time the lake was even larger. However, it was lowered in the mid-19th century to create more agricultural land. A few decades after the lake was lowered, the meadows became marshy and increasingly difficult to farm. During the 20th century, the meadows became overgrown with weeds and willow bushes.
Nowadays, the lake has a rich bird life with several unusual species nesting and resting at the lake and its shore zones. Over 150 species have been observed at Dällingen. Many species nest and build nests in the lake's surrounding wetlands, including snipe and the rare water rail. The red-listed curlew, with its characteristically long bill, is also often seen at the lake. So are whooper swans and cranes.
Among the birds of prey that nest or forage at the lake are the brown harrier, sparrowhawk and buzzard. The lake's reed beds and shrub thickets are home to the swift sparrow. It usually builds its nest on the ground by a tuft, or low in a bush.
