Skarpåsen’s execution site is located about 2 km southeast of Lenhovda’s courthouse and the old prison. In the old days were the executions a big happening and many people came to watch. The name “Skarpåsen” comes from the Swedish word skarprättare which was the name for the executioner.
In the laws from 1734 was it legalized with capital punishment for 68 different crimes. The death penalty wasn’t that common and in 1847 was the last execution in Uppvidinge härad. His name was Carl Peterson and he was sentenced to death for a murder during the course of a robbery. The executioner’s name was Johannes ”Fearless” Jönsson. He executed 14 people in total during his carer as executioner. His axe can be seen on Smålands Museum in Växjö.

There is no parking space next to the execution site. Park your car with caution next to the small gravel road.
Veibeskrivelse
Skarpåsen’s execution site is close to Lenhovda and road 28/31. Follow the signs towards Merhult and follow that road for about 1 km.
Its easy to walk to the execution site from Lenhovda and it takes about 30 minutes.
