Beskrivelse
In Yxnevik, an area of valuable broadleaf forest is protected. Oak is the most common tree species and there are plenty of old, decaying trees. The trees are home to many unusual beetles, mosses and lichens. The reserve also has grazed pastures with rich flora.
Rich in variety
Yxnevik's nature is varied, with seashore meadows, mixed forests and rocky and pastoral areas. In the past, the whole area was used for grazing and haymaking. Many of the trees bear traces of leaf cutting, known as pollarding. During pollarding, farmers used branches and leaves to supplement the cattle's winter feed. In Yxnevik, an area of valuable broadleaf forest is protected. Oak is the most common tree species and there are plenty of old, decaying trees. The trees are home to many unusual beetles, mosses and lichens. The reserve also has grazed pastures with rich flora.
Rich flora
Even today, grazing animals still roam parts of the reserve. This favors light-loving vascular plants such as cat's foot and the orchid Adam and Eve. In the sparse deciduous forest's rich moss grows, among other things, woundwort, a herb that was once used in folk medicine.
Valuable trees
The reserve is home to many unusual species that are linked to the old deciduous trees. Lichen and mosses such as lung lichen, trap moss and golden curl moss grow on the rough bark of the tree trunks. Dying and dead trees are home to beetle larvae which, after their pupal stages, develop into thorn beetles, willow thorn beetles, and oak bark beetles.
