Transjön

Transjön is Torsås municipality's largest lake. A lovely excursion destination, with an associated nice barbecue area.

Transjön borders the villages of Torhult, Skruvemåla, Lövsmåla, Kringlemåla and Troxhult.The length of the lake is about 1000 meters and has a width of about 300 meters, where the lake is widest.

In the 1940s, the lake was rich in fish with several species of fish such as perch, pike, burbot eel and roach, which at that time could be fished up with the help of nets, fyke nets or rods. Unfortunately, Transjön, like many other Swedish lakes, was affected by the acidification that began in the 1990s. Since then, the fish population has declined in Transjön, and during the 1970s and 1980s the lake was almost completely devoid of life. The pH value was then too low for the fish to survive.

But after repeated liming in recent years, life has returned to the lake again, which is very gratifying. This is certainly the case for pike and perch. The lake is privately owned and please note and respect that fishing is prohibited in the entire Transjön. Swans can be seen resting here for a few days in spring and fall on their journeys to and from their breeding grounds far to the north.

The lake is now easily accessible by car and bus. Gullabo Sockenstämma and Gullabo Hembygdsförening have together set up a nice barbecue area at the southern end of the lake with shelter, benches and barbecue facilities. The view from here on a summer day, or at any time, is well worth a visit.
