Stenebo gruva i Ukna

**In a mountain outside Ukna lies the Stenebo large mine.

The history of the mine dates back to the mid-17th century. The mine is located on a mountain consisting of felsic gneiss with transitions to gray and black felsic flint. The ore is described as poor, but the supply is large and mining is easy. The mine is 90 meters deep.

Over the centuries, iron mining has gone up and down, but on the night of June 17, 1875, there was a collapse. By then, the mine had been hard at work for a few years and safety had been put aside. Fortunately, no miners were killed, but the collapse was the end of the mine.

When visiting, remember to pack loose clothing, good waterproof shoes and a torch. It's possible to walk upright in the mine shaft but it's narrow.
