Beskrivelse
Parts of this forest were already recognized in the 1920s. Thanks to some forest enthusiasts, the area was protected, mainly for its old spruce trees. Now, some 100 years later, the oldest trees are over 250 years old!
Where will you go?
Wherever you turn in the reserve, you are walking through forest. But the forest is not the same everywhere. In the southeastern part is the oldest forest in the reserve, with magnificent spruces. If you go west, the forest is much younger. The same applies if you continue north of the road, where you finally arrive at a small babbling brook. In the northeast, the coniferous forest is mixed with many deciduous trees.
Primordial forest-like
It is a special feeling to walk in an old growth forest. One moment you are walking in the shade of all the trees, to suddenly reach a bright glade where dead trees have fallen to the ground. The fallen trunks form the forest's own picking sticks. Like boulders and stones, the trunks are covered with the forest's own carpet of mosses.
To the delight of many
The forest in Stenbergsmo is home to many different plants and animals. Many of them live in secret, like beetle larvae that gnaw their way through the trunks of old trees. But then there are those that attract attention, like the peculiar pine-ear. It's a fleshy plant that lacks chlorophyll, hence its pale color. Less easy to spot is the knapweed, a small woodland orchid that grows in the thick moss mats and flowers in July-August.

From Högsby - drive towards Fågelfors. After Horsebergasjön, turn right onto Horsebergsvägen. Follow this to AK-vägen where you turn left. Then turn right and left on Kringelmossevägen and Strutmossevägen until you end up at a small parking lot and reserve sign inside the reserve.
Forskrifter
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Drive a motorized vehicle off designated roads or trails.
- Park vehicles, caravans or trailers for more than two days in places other than designated parking lots.
- Camping.
- Deliberately disturbing wildlife.
- Bringing a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Make a fire.
- Picking or damaging mosses, lichens or wood fungi.
- digging or pulling up vascular plants
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or reeds that are growing or dead.
If you have obtained a permit from the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Set traps to collect insects.
Full regulations
C. Regulations for the public according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code on the right to travel and stay in the reserve and on order in general within the reserve.
It is forbidden to enter the reserve:
- drive motor vehicles other than on existing roads.
- set up a motor vehicle, caravan or trailer other than for a maximum of two consecutive days in a specially designated place.
- camping
- deliberately disturbing wildlife
- Bringing an unleashed dog or other loose pet.
- put up a picture, sign, poster, poster, art object or similar device or make an inscription
- making a fire
- picking or damaging wood fungi, mosses or lichens
- Digging or pulling up vascular plants.
- Damage or remove growing or dead trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or brush.
It is also forbidden without the permission of the County Administrative Board:
- set traps for the collection of insects.
The regulations under C do not apply to owners or holders of special rights to property or holders of other rights.
