Beskrivelse

The trail, which follows the main course of the Ljungbyån river, along rapids and calm, deep waters, through forests, pastures and towns and past beautiful cultural monuments, offers a unique opportunity to experience both nature and the cultural heritage of the area in a relaxed way. Thanks to its rich spring bloom, the trail is especially nice to walk during spring. Whether you want to go for a day hike or a short walk, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The entire trail is 8.5 kilometers one way, but it is also possible to walk shorter loops. at Hossmo, the trail connects to the 120 km long Kalmarsundsleden.

If you feel like taking a break along the way, there are several benches and barbecue areas to sit down at.

Information and stories

To make your walk along the trail easier, there are clear signs and red trail markers. In a number of places there are alternative routes that are marked with yellow trail markers.

Along the trail there are also a number of information signs that tell you more about nature and cultural monuments. With the help of the hiking trail's own digital map, you can further enrich your experience as you see where on the trail you are and can take part in stories, pictures and movies.

Right of public access and pastures

It is good to know that the trails that run through the pastures Källängen, Krankelösaholm and the Prästgårdsängen nature reserve have grazing animals (cows and horses) for much of the year. Here there are only simple paths and you get in and out of the area through paths. Cyclists are not allowed in these areas and dogs must always be kept on a lead. Special rules also apply in the nature reserve.

You are allowed to walk through the pastures, unless the landowner has put up signs indicating a temporary ban. You are doing the right thing when you use the paddocks and leave the fence alone, be calm in your behavior and keep as much distance as possible from the animals. Remember that you are in the paddock at your own risk!

Remember not to disturb, destroy or leave any litter. A large part of the route lacks garbage bins, so take all waste home.

Ljungbyån

Ljungbyån originates in Kronoberg County and flows into Kalmarsund at Hossmo. The watercourse has historically been the lifeline of the community. People have lived, fished and traded along the river since the Stone Age. The village flourished during the Viking Age. The name Ljungby comes from the word "ljonga", which means to hold things, and the suffix "-by" is common from the Viking Age.

By the river there were popular bathing and washing places, where clothes and carpets were washed in the running water. The trail passes several of the village's farms with ancient origins. In Källängen there used to be a well where people traveled to drink the health water.

Historically, the river's moist banks have been sought after for grazing and haymaking. In spring and summer, these lands offer a floral display between large stately oaks. Birds such as swallows, kingfishers and oystercatchers are attracted to small fish and insects in the water. The water is home to a wealth of fish species, including sea trout and whitefish, which have benefited from intensive restoration work on the rapids and river bed in recent years. Wildlife comes to the water to drink and to hunt, including otters.
