Beskrivelse
Blankaviken is a popular bathing area, but the nature reserve also has flower-rich wooded pastures and lush deciduous forests. Up on the high cliffs you can look out over Gåsfjärden.
Popular bathing place
The Blankaviken nature reserve was established as early as 1973 to ensure public access to a valuable bathing and hiking area. The narrow bay is connected to Gåsfjärden. This mighty bay is almost completely closed off to the east by large islands. Contact with the Baltic Sea is therefore limited and thus the availability of salt water. So don't be surprised if the water doesn't taste salty when you take a bath, even if you bathe in the sea!
The nature of Blankaviken
The shores of Blankaviken are lined with dense reed belts, which open up at the bathing area. To the north is a wooded pasture with fine flora. If you climb to the heights, you have a view of the surroundings of Blankaviken. Inland, forests spread out, where many of the old trees bear traces of pollarding. These trees are characterized by their candelabra-like branching, where the branches originate from a single point on the tree's trunk. Pollarding was carried out by local farmers who pruned the trees to collect twigs and leaves to feed their cattle in winter.
Fagra flowers
The reserve's pastures are home to broadleaf trees such as oak, lime, ash and maple, as well as various shrubs such as juniper, blackthorn, rosehip and hazel. Cat's-foot, cowslip and bluebell are some examples of the plants you can see. The unusual orchid Adam and Eve also grows here. It blooms in May-June and comes in two different colors, one white-flowered and one red-flowered.
