Beskrivelse
Bankeberg is one of several places along the Emån with rich and lush deciduous forest. Many common and uncommon plants and animals live in the nature reserve. The insect life is rich, which attracts woodpeckers and other birds. In spring, you can enjoy a rich floral display.
Tracks that tell the story
Here you walk in land that has long been owned and farmed by Bankeberg village. Lush deciduous forest leaves its mark on your visit, but notice ditches, cairns and pruned trees on your way through the forest. They are reminiscent of the days when the villagers cultivated and collected hay from the tree-covered meadows that existed here in the past.
Eldorado for bugs
Oak, aspen and birch are the most common tree species in the reserve. Many of the trees are old and hollow, and here and there you can see dead branches and decaying, tall stumps. A beetle expert looking for wood-boring bugs visited the area in the early 2000s. The old trees and decaying wood turned out to be home to a number of rare and endangered species. You can see some of them here on the sign, in reality they can be hard to find for the untrained eye.
Look high and low
Flowers and birds are easier to spot than millimeter-sized bugs. Spring pea and lesser celandine, wood anemone and cowslip grow widely in the reserve. It is also worth looking for woodpeckers such as the lesser spotted woodpecker and the robin. Or small birds such as the duck and the titmouse. Sometimes the shy stonechat glimpses past up in the branches of the deciduous trees.

The reserve is located just west of the village of Fliseryd. Drive west from Fliseryd towards Ruda. Turn right at Bankeberg. After about 700 meters turn right onto a narrow forest road. The reserve is located between this road and Emån.The road is private, parking is done with the utmost care.
Forskrifter
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Intentionally disturb wildlife.
- Bring a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Make a fire.
- Pick or damage mosses, lichens or wood fungi.
- Digging or pulling up vascular plants.
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, shrubs or brush that are growing or dead.
Full regulations
C. Regulations according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code on the right to travel and stay in the reserve and on order in general.
It is forbidden to enter the reserve:
- disturbing wildlife
- bring an unleashed dog or other loose pet.
- Make a fire.
- Pick or damage wood fungi, mosses or lichens.
- Digging or pulling up vascular plants.
- Damage or remove growing or dead trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or brush.
The regulations under C do not apply to owners or holders of special rights to real estate or holders of other rights.
