7 Underofficersmässen

The two-and-a-half-storey building - also known as the Petty Officers' Barracks - was built in the 1840s. Fifty years later, two single-storey wings were added. Unfortunately, there is no description of the building's interior, but it was certainly spartan. The building was grayish brown and measured 35 x 10 meters. In addition to the dining room and kitchen, it contained a large number of bedrooms.

The military profession was considered to be a sideline to agriculture during the subdivision. But in the latter part of the 19th century, many conscripted officers sought employment in the postal service or in the coveted profession of liquor inspector. Some sought employment in the forces of law and order, and often they became quartermasters.
