Konstverk Båtbärarna

In a tourist book
about Bor, Thomas Qvarsebo read the sentence: “They came carrying their slender
vessels”, which he interpreted to mean carrying boats between waterways by way
of travel. “I have tried to bring out the spirit of the settlers by showing the
construction of the boats. Together, the three figures build a balanced
composition that may evoke ancient rock carvings.”

Thomas Qvarsebo works
extensively in steel, Corten, copper and bronze. His most famous sculpture is
the bronze bust of Olof Palme in the Riksdag building in Stockholm, but he has
made many sculptures for public places throughout the country. Many of the
sculptures have an open-ended pattern with a somewhat cubist form, but some are
very true to nature with a strong personal expression (such as Olof Palme).
Purchased by the Municipality of Värnamo in 1989.
