Beskrivelse
Åbron The best place to cross the river Lagan was where the bridge Åbron is today. There was a ford, shallow enough to allow people and animals to get to the other side. The first documented mention of a bridge across Lagan is from the 18th century, and there was also a toll house here where people had to pay a fee to pass. The toll money was used for the upkeep of the bridge. The charge ended in the 1850s. In 1836, it was decided to build a stone bridge across Lagan. It was replaced by the current bridge, designed by the municipal engineer G. Melchior, in 1942.
Färgarens ö South of the bridge Åbron is Färgarens ö. The name of the islet in the river Lagan derives from the dye houses located here in the 19th century.

Fakta
This sign is part of the town history walk “Pinnapå”. The whole route is around 5 km and includes 12 signs. Pinnapå is part of “Värnamo – Tales of Our Town”, a historical exhibition in the cultural centre Gummifabriken, housed in Värnamo’s ancient rubber factory.
The signs are designed by Gro Knutsen and are inspired by spindle-back chairs (pinnstolar), a famous cultural heritage from Värnamo. (Hence the name Pinnapå, which means to walk on at a steady pace.)
