In the southern part of the nature reserve there is a path to walk on. You can start at the beautiful Hasslingsåfallet waterfall, which is just outside the reserve, and cross a bridge to head west on the path.
If you are prepared to go off the path and into more difficult terrain, you will find old pine forest that has preserved traces of forest fires. These may be stumps blackened with charcoal or fire damage at the base of the pine trunk. A few pine trees have survived several fires, and this can be seen in the number of fire noises in the trunk.
Old forests, where trees are allowed to grow freely, to be born and die without human influence, provide conditions for many different mosses, lichens, fungi, insects and birds to thrive.
A natural forest contains trees of different types, ages and sizes. Strömhöjden contains both pine natural forest and neighboring natural forest. What they have in common is that when the trees die of old age, they remain standing for a number of years before falling to the ground. Once on the ground, the tree trunks slowly decompose, wood fungi rot the wood, the trunk becomes overgrown with moss and lichens, insects eat their way through the wood and lay eggs, birds come and feast on the insects.

To get to the nature reserve from Hotagen, drive from Hotagen towards Valsjöbyn about six kilometers and then turn right just after the bridge over Valsjön. Follow the road for about three kilometers and then turn left into the Hasslingsåfallet parking lot. Then you have to walk one kilometer on the path.
Forskrifter
Welcome to Strömhöjden. Keep in mind that in the reserve it is not allowed to:
- pick and collect species of various kinds, with the exception of berries and edible mushrooms.
- climbing trees, staying near a bird of prey's nest, lair or pot, collecting animals or otherwise deliberately damaging or disturbing wildlife.
- damage the ground, boulders, vegetation, dry trees or other dead wood
- make fires, other than with firewood brought along
- drive a motorized vehicle in terrain on bare ground.
Without the permission of the County Administrative Board, it is forbidden to:
- conduct or engage in organized outdoor recreation, competitions, camp activities, military exercises or other organized events.
- conduct scientific studies that involve the collection of species or have other impacts on the natural environment.
Other rules apply if you want to carry out any kind of activity in the area, see the relevant reserve decision for full regulations. There may also be other laws to take into account, such as the Reindeer Husbandry Act.
