Stora kyrkan

Stora kyrkan is located at Rådhusgatan 45. The church's altarpiece is Östersund's largest work of art with an image area of 170 square meters. The motifs in the altarpiece are taken from the parables of Jesus in the Gospels. The artist is Professor Hilding Linnqvist, one of Sweden's foremost naive artists. He mixed motifs from different times and places. One example of this is the maiden in the story who wears Jämtland folk costume. The painting was painted al fresco between 1939 and 1940.
