Beskrivelse
Virsehatt is a mountain that rises like a dome over the Sennan valley. There are great trails and beautiful views. If you want a little tougher hike, go up the mountain where you can enjoy the magnificent view. There is also a digital treasure hunt in the reserve, which is great for children. Also keep an eye out for the troll!
A marked path runs from the parking lot, over the mountain and out into the pasture. The Hallandsleden trail also runs past the area.
At the foot of Virsehatt, a marked path leads steeply up towards the top of the mountain. The path then continues over and around the mountain. The path is 1 kilometer long. In summer, you can smell the scent of wild honeysuckle wafting over the rocks. There are also plenty of oak trees on the slopes and cliffs of the mountain, while beech trees dominate further up the ridge. To the north is the lushest part of the mountain, where herbs such as spring onions, ferns and cornflowers emerge through the brown carpet of last year's leaves when spring makes itself felt.
The low-lying parts to the south and west of the mountain are pasture land with oak, hazel and juniper bushes. This area is grazed by sheep, as is the slightly wetter area down towards Sennan where alder and birch dominate. There is a barbecue area in the pasture. Bring your own firewood or coal!
Digital treasure hunt and a troll
There is a digital treasure hunt in the reserve that is suitable for children. The character Virse tells an exciting story from the 400s about some brothers who hid three treasures in Virsehatt. With the help of the map, you can find the treasures, and at each location there is a new clip to listen to. Bring your phone or tablet and listen to the exciting stories via the QR codes. The treasure hunt goes all the way up the mountain. In the reserve, you can meet both Virse himself and a troll "hiding" on a ledge in the mountain.
Stamp in the reserve
In some of our most popular reserves, you can also collect a nice stamp when you visit the reserve. You stamp either directly in your guidebook or on your own paper/book. In Virsehatt, the stamp is located along the hiking trail on the north side of the mountain, close to where you come out of the forest to the pasture.
Eating hut with a view
From the mountain you have a magnificent view of the Sennan valley and all the way to the sea. The cliffs plunge vertically downwards. It is said that in ancient times they were used as an ancestral hut by old people. When they could no longer support themselves or contribute to the work on the farm, they threw themselves down to certain death. Whether this is true or not is disputed by scholars, but at one of the summits there are outcrops with bowl pits, which suggests that Virsehatt was at least some kind of sacrificial site during the Bronze Age. On the top of the mountain there are also remains of a wall from an ancient castle, an ancient monument that is rare in this part of Halland. The sons and daughters of the village could flee to the ancient castle in times of trouble. Given Virsehatt's natural cliffs and precipices, the ancient castle was probably difficult to take.
Valuable watercourse
The Sennan River is an important part of the reserve. Along the river grows alder that forms a curtain along the water. Hazel and abundant raspberry bushes are also found here. The bottom fauna is valuable, which has a positive effect on both birds and fish. Salmon and trout reproduce in the river, and kingfishers, common sturgeon and white-tailed godwit feed in the area.
The nature reserve is formed
In 1935, the Enslöv local history society bought Virsehatt and the surrounding area for SEK 2,000. The following year, the then county governor Hilding Kjellman inaugurated the Virsehatt nature park and the ryggåsstugan (ridge cabin) located at the foot of the mountain. The inauguration was described as a large folk and local festival with around 1,500 participants. A year later, Virsehatt was protected and the nature reserve was established.
Accessibility in the reserve
An accessible dry toilet is located next to the parking lot. The path out into the pasture is not explicitly adapted for accessibility, but is level and without obstacles. It is suitable for prams and it is generally possible to get around with a walker or wheelchair.
Welcome to try our digital treasure hunt in Virsehatt! The treasure hunt is suitable for children. Bring your phone or tablet and listen to the exciting stories via the QR codes in the reserve.
