Lilla Torg & Sankta Annas kloster

On Lilla torg there was one of Halmstad's monasteries called Sankta Annas kloster. It was built in the 1490s. If you look closely at the square's paving stones, you can see that the monastery's walls have been preserved in red-colored stones.

St. Anna's monastery is said to have been built in 1494. However, there are many indications that construction was still going on in 1499 and 1503. During her visit to Halmstad in 1503, Kristina of Saxony gave a silver plate to be sold and the money used for the construction of the Franciscan monastery. In 1531, the monastic brothers were allegedly deprived of the monastery's keys by the city magistrate and expelled from the monastery.
