Höga Bro

Stone has been added to stone in a unique construction for the country. The High Bridge, built using the shell bridge technique, 13 meters long and 7 meters high, sets the imagination in motion. How much effort did it take to build this bridge by hand at the time of its construction? What use did people have for it, apart from crossing the river? Perhaps the site also served as an impoundment at a time when grist mills were common. Remains of these can be found downstream of the bridge.

The exact age of the bridge is unknown, but the old Gunnarsjö road ran here as early as the 17th century. In 1820 the bridge was repaired, which suggests that it was old even then. It was in full use until 1917, and almost 100 years later the old bridge was "discovered" again! On the initiative of Kungsäter-Gunnarsjö bygdelag and the County Administrative Board, the bridge regained its former glory through extensive restoration and could be reopened in 2015 by County Governor Lena Sommestad.
