Åkraberg, Naturreservat

Åkraberg is a small oak-covered pasture located on a hilltop. There are between 200-400 year old large oak trees. The trees have a number of species attached to them. In the spring, an impressive carpet of wood anemones spreads out under the trees.

The highest point of the mountain is 45 meters above sea level in the central part of the reserve. The bedrock consists of gneiss and is partly formed in terraces and steep slopes. The steepest slopes are in the south-western and western parts of the area.

Grazed pasture with oak

Åkraberg consists largely of grazed pasture. In the pasture there are 200-400 year old and large oaks. Here the soil layers are thicker and the oaks have a tall, straight-stemmed appearance with a large crown. This area has been grazed for a long time. On the slopes, the oaks are more gnarled and relatively low-growing.

Endangered plants and animals

Åkraberg's old oaks are home to a threatened group of plants and animals. Lichens such as elm lichen and old oak lichen grow on the trees' rough bark. There are also woodland fungi such as the white fungus and the oxtongue fungus. The almost globe-shaped beetle, the broad tick gnawer, is a rarity in the area and, like several of the above-mentioned species, has old oaks as its main habitat. The common dormouse, the northern bat and the little brown bat are other interesting species in the area.

Also other deciduous trees

In the south, the slope is covered by a lush deciduous forest with ash, maple, elm and other deciduous trees. Old beech grows in the western parts.
