Beskrivelse
When traveling between Klintehamn and Russpark, be sure to stop at the Alstäde Forest Nature Reserve, an easily accessible and exciting forest area with old pine forest.
Alstäde forest consists of just over 50 hectares of old coniferous forest. Many of the rough pine trees are more than 200 years old. In parts of the area there is also a rich element of old late-growing spruces. Dead wood is abundant, in the form of standing dead trees and fallen trunks. Trees that have fallen over are called "flames" and provide valuable habitats for many species of wood-living insects, among others.
The nature reserve is at a high altitude. Parts of the reserve are relatively high by Gotland standards, reaching just over 60 metres above sea level, while the lowest parts are almost 20 metres lower. A steep slope runs north-south through the reserve, which in places has the character of a low cliff.
The vascular plant flora is dominated by species such as eagle's-bracken, blue and white anemone, wood violet, colored moon and blood nettle.
