Beskrivelse
The West Mountain is a popular nature and recreation area, but it also has a rich history and hides secrets in its interior.
Through a nature conservation project, the qualities of the mountain have been strengthened and made easily accessible. Signposts and information boards have been erected and shelters and barbecue areas have been built. Today it is easier to move around the mountain as both a viewpoint and paths have been adapted for accessibility.
Visitors were already attracted to the mountain in the first half of the 20th century. Some to walk along the Love Trail, rest on one of the benches along the path or behind the large boulders. Others to look at the plantings and experience nature. The name of the path lives on, and so do the benches.
The location of the mountain makes it a great asset to the city as a nature and recreation area. From the mountain, visitors also get a good view of the city. The old water tower on the highest point of the mountain offers a long view of Hälsingland's forests, mountains and coast. The water tower, which was designed by Sweden's first female architect, provided the southern ports with tap water. The interior of the mountain conceals large caverns that were built for use in times of crisis.
On the West Mountain there are five information boards with different topics to learn more about: the ice and the sea, lack of housing in the forest, a secret defense facility, nature on the West Mountain, Magnell's Tower and the history of the West Mountain. You can go and look at the different boards to find out all the information.
