Beskrivelse
The Sjugarna nature reserve is named after the Sjugarn bog in the middle of the reserve. In this flat and relatively coastal area you are met by a varied nature. The open moorland is surrounded by trees of different ages and types. The area is located 43 kilometers southeast of Hamrånge and covers 124 hectares. The bogs and forest offer great nature experiences. The forest, which has remained largely untouched since the 1800s, consists of spruce and deciduous trees. Where the ground is a little drier, pine trees grow, and some of the pines are around 200 years old.
Roam freely
There are no paths in Sjugarnas nature reserve, so you can roam freely in the area. There are also groves of aspen, some of which are very large.
Valuable for many
The rare aspen jelly lichen grows on these, among other things. The rare species candelabra fungus and violet-gray thorn lichen are also found in the area.
Near the reserve there are the remains of a shepherd's hut, and up until 1918 hay was cut on the marshes in Sjugarn. A short distance outside the nature reserve there are also ancient monuments in the form of burial cairns.
