Lockjärv, Naturreservat

Lockjärv is a natural forest area next to the lake of the same name. There are no facilities for outdoor recreation in the area, but it can be reached via a forest road. Lockjärv nature reserve is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Hassela and covers about 130 hectares of natural forest area next to the lake of the same name. The area is located in Hassela finnskog and is situated in both Nordanstig and Hudiksvall municipalities, in northern Hälsingland.

The area has high forestry values. The area is strongly characterized by fire, with traces of fire on living pines and on dead wood. There are plenty of old burnt pine stumps and pine needles (lying dead trees) scattered throughout the area.

Species and nearby reserves

Adjacent to the lake Lockjärv there is a stand of old primeval pine forest with elements of 250-300 year old pines. The pine tick, patchy tick, rose tick, dwarf beech lichen and lung lichen are examples of rare species worthy of protection found in the area.

The central part of the reserve area consists of a mosaic-like old-growth forest area with marshland, small bogs and moist pine-dominated forest. In the damp swamp forest there are plenty of old willows and aspens with both lung lichen communities, scented ticks and jelly lichens.

The reserve is only about 350 meters from Gulliksberget nature reserve and about one kilometer south of the Kvarnmyrorna nature reserve.
