Hådells gammelskog, Naturreservat

Hådell's old forest is 35 hectares in size and is one of the few older forest areas in the municipality that is allowed to develop freely. In the reserve, you can visit a replica of an old forester's hut. Here you can also take a break and have a fire at the barbecue area. From here you can walk on a path in a loop through the protected forest. In the reserve, the 200-year-old mixed coniferous forest spreads out on the lean and blocky moraine soil. It also contains small wetlands and occasional water-filled depressions.

In the new part of the reserve, right next to the old reserve boundary, there is an ancient monument. It is a settlement from the Stone Age that is visible as pits in the shingle field. The settlement area consists of six settlement pits, five of which are in line with each other.

Plant and animal life

The forest contains dead wood in the form of standing dead trees, high stumps and lying trunks. These are important conditions for the plant and animal species that are bound to the old forest. Examples of species in the area are the pine thistle, lung lichen, wood crow, three-toed woodpecker and capercaillie.

There are many animals that thrive in the reserve. In addition to the three-toed woodpecker, the woodpecker and the capercaillie, moose, roe deer, badgers and lynx have been observed in the area.
