Stora granens naturreservat

There is a giant spruce in the south-western part of the municipality next to Björberget's mountain huts. Today, the spruce is a destination for excursions, but in the past it served as a landmark in the terrain. The reserve is 0.7 hectares in size and consists of old spruce forest growing on previously open land. As early as the 1870s, the giant spruce was known as the big spruce and when new herds of shepherds first came to Björberget, they were taught that: at the big spruce on the hill, the road splits into three and then you have to go to... The ground grows, among other things, cornflower and spring pea, which indicates that the soil is fertile. Dead wood is sparse today, but will increase as the spruces get older. For the attentive visitor, there are traces of the pastoral era to discover, such as the remains of an old meadow barn and the spice plant masterwort. A well-trodden path leads from the parking lot to Stora granen.
