Friluftsfrämjandet in Gagnef has a unique hiking trail system consisting of 480 km of trails in a network covering the entire municipality. The purpose of the trails is to support outdoor recreation and preserve the centuries-old cultural trails.

They are mainly shepherd's huts and the trails pass through most of the municipality's shepherd's huts, some 40 in all. There are many rest huts, huts and charcoal huts in the trail system, so with a sleeping bag and sleeping pad you can get a simple night's accommodation.

In 13 facilities, you can sleep more than one person and in 12 charcoal huts there is a bunk. All rest cabins are unlocked except Prästbuo in Björbo, where you can borrow a key from Källbäckens by.

The trail system is divided into 13 different areas for care and maintenance.

This trail

Gröngubben's hiking trails are about 25 km long and stretch from the village of Bäsna in the northeast to Väckarbodarna in the southwest. The hiking trails pass three mountain farms and three nature conservation areas. The terrain is fairly hilly from the Dalälven river (about 160 m above sea level) in Bäsna up to the highest peak, Ändlösberget (425 m above sea level). Most of the trails, however, run on the mountain heights from 260 m above sea level to 360 m above sea level. Friluftsfrämjandet has collected both facts and folklore from the area and placed almost 30 signs along the trails.

Gröngubbens trail around Ändlösberget. Length approx. 8 km

Starting point. Parking lot at Väckarbodarna or Gästgivarbodarna after Bästenvägen

This varied and hilly tour passes three mountain farms. A resting hut with overnight accommodation is available at Lindbodarna. About 300 meters south of Lindbodarna, "Tunkarls källa" is excellent where you can fill up on cold water. Between Lindbodarna and Gästgivarbodarna a detour to Trollbergs klack has been marked. You also have the opportunity to make detours to the Lortån nature reserve at Gästgivarbodarna and to the Ändlösberget nature reserve between Väckarbodarna and Lindbodarna. Footpaths are marked at these reserves and you will return on the hiking trails.

**Tour suggestion 2

Gröngubbens trail from Bäsna around Stora Orsen. Length about 11 km.

Starting point Bäsna Handel och krog. Bus connection is available from Borlänge and Djurås

This tour starts in Bäsna up Malmyrberget to Lake Stora Orsen. A height difference of about 160 meters. Here it fits well with a break by the lake. The trail follows the lake to the west and continues under the Harsprångsledningen past Lake Lilla Orsen. After about 500 meters you come to a crossroads where you choose to go north (right) towards Bäsna. After about 1 km you can spend the night or rest at a charcoal hut.

Tour suggestion 3

Gröngubbens trail from Bäsna past the lakes Stora Orsen, Lilla Orsen, Rudtjärn and Sältjärn to Lindbodarna and back to Bäsna. Length about 14 km.

Starting point Bäsna Handel och krog. Bus connection is available from Borlänge and Djurås

This tour starts the same as tour proposal 2. At the junction after Lilla Orsen, choose the trail towards Gästgivarbodarna. At Puttkojan, where two people can spend the night, there is a detour of about 200 m to information about peat mining of litter with remains from that time. At Puttkojan there is also a spring with cold water marked. The tour continues past Sältjärn where you choose to go towards Lindbodarna at the junction with Gästgivarbodarna. At Lindbodarna there are overnight accommodation in the Friluftsfrämjandet cabin. From Lindbodarna you have about 5 km down to Bäsna.
