Nerigården, Naturreservat

The Nerigården Nature Reserve is located on a slope leading down toward Lake Stora Ulvsjön. The deciduous forest, now rich in spruce, was once used for both forest grazing and haymaking. Few traces of this remain today, but with a keen eye, these traces can still be seen in the flora and fauna.

Overgrown Hayfields

Most of the nature reserve consists of long-abandoned hayfields and, subsequently, tree-covered pastureland. The area has become overgrown with aspen, spruce, and birch.​

Old Deciduous Trees Are Favored by Both Birds and Flora

There are many large aspens where the ground is dry, as well as other large, old trees such as rowan, pine, and spruce. These trees provide important nesting sites for rare and endangered species. These species are most often associated with aspen. The abundance of deciduous trees benefits bird life, and the presence of hollow trees and dead wood benefits both bird and insect fauna. The flora is rich, including blue anemone, spring vetch, and black baneberry.
