Helgåsskogens Naturreservat

The area is 144 ha in size and the nature consists mainly of over 100-year-old pine forest on relatively poor soil.

Two areas with a large amount of deciduous trees show the pastoral activities that were very common throughout Åhls parish in the past. Small wetlands are evenly distributed between the forest areas. On the western side of the area there is a large, elongated mire with a couple of mire pools.

The area's main natural values lie in the large proportion of old, coarse pine trees, known as overstory trees, which are found throughout the area. Overstory trees are trees that were left over from the last felling and have now become really old and coarse.
