Grycksbo-Sågmyra-Bjursås-Österå

A varied bike ride that mainly goes along gravel roads or disused railway embankments and passes scenic environments, lakes and historic mill towns. Please note that it is not a marked cycle path, but you have to navigate yourself using a map or phone.

From Falun, follow the slightly hilly Gamla Fruns väg, which runs along Lake Grycken, north towards Grycksbo. On your way out of Grycksbo, you can stop for a dip at the Tansen bathing area. Between Grycksbo and Sågmyra you cycle on the old embankment towards Rättvik, passing meadows, watercourses, lush forests and red houses. As you approach Sågmyra, the old and magnificent wool factory towers up in the distance. In Sågmyra you can take the opportunity to have a coffee in the café in the old wool shed.

The bike trail then continues towards Bjursås, the Switzerland of Dalarna. Enjoy the breathtaking views and perhaps another swim in Lake Rogsjön. The journey then continues towards Österå via Haghed along gravel roads through varied forest. Österå is part of the World Heritage Site in Falun and is beautifully situated next to Lake Varpan where there are also several baths. Follow the shore of Varpan back towards Falun.

In Grycksbo and Bjursås there is a grocery store and restaurant if you want to stop and eat. In Sågmyra there are also opportunities to eat or have a coffee.
