Fäbodledsområde 12, Gråbuan

Friluftsfrämjandet in Gagnef has a unique hiking trail system consisting of 480 km of trails in a network covering the entire municipality. The purpose of the trails is to support outdoor recreation and preserve the centuries-old cultural trails.

They are mainly shepherd's huts and the trails pass through most of the municipality's shepherd's huts, some 40 in all. There are many rest huts, huts and charcoal huts in the trail system, so with a sleeping bag and sleeping pad you can get a simple night's accommodation.

In 13 facilities, you can sleep more than one person and in 12 charcoal huts there is a bunk. All rest cabins are unlocked except Prästbuo in Björbo, where you can borrow a key from Källbäckens by.

The trail system is divided into 13 different areas for care and maintenance.

Area 12 Gråbuan

From Mockfjärd north to Gagnef's Floberget mountain pasture east to Västerfors there are these hiking trails. The Europaled 1 hiking trail runs through this area to the municipality of Leksand, where the nearest pasture is Forsbodarna. The trails pass 5 mountain farms. Furthermore, the trails go east towards the Mojeberget area where they pass the two floating bridges in Gagnef municipality.

Tour suggestion 1

Gråbuan round trip from Mockfjärd. Length approx. 9 km

Starting point the parking lot at Högbergsdammen Nordanholen in Mockfjärd.

This easy hike starts at Högbergsdammen. Follow Europaled 1 north for 4.5 km to Gråbodarna. Here there is a nice rest area with a hut to take a break. Then follow the trail east towards Björkbodarna. After less than 1 km you come to a crossroads where you choose the trail south towards Nordbäcksbodarna. After about 2 km from Nordbäcksbodarna you come to a junction where a trail goes back west to Europaled 1. Go back on Europaled 1 for about 1.5 km to Högbergsdammen.

Alternative route is that you do not choose to go back to Europaled 1 but choose to follow the trail back to Högsveden in Mockfjärd and go back to Högbergsdammen on the village roads. Extends the round trip by about 1 km. After this trail there is a charcoal hut to take a break at.

Fäbodrundan. Length approx. 14 km

Starting point the parking lot at Gråbodarna after the gravel road between Mockfjärd and Västerfors. Alternative at Myggtjärn, forest road from Mon.

The hike starts at the parking lot in Gråbuan and continues through the pasture east towards Björkbodarna. Before Björkobodarna you can choose to take the left trail up towards Kättjarboberget or the right trail which is less hilly.

At Björkbodarna, follow the trail to Västerfors for 200 meters when you come to a crossing. Choose the right-hand trail east towards Gagnefsbyn, passing Ansjön and Kyrkstenen. When you reach the trail that goes towards Gagnefsbyn, choose to go southwest towards Skogtjärn. At the southern end of Skogtjärn, choose the trail west towards Nordbäcksbodarna. At Nordbäcksbodarna take the trail north back towards Gråbodarna.

The trip can be shortened by about 3 km if you choose to take the trail to Myggtjärn from Björkbodarna. A good resting place besides the sheds is to walk a bit on the eastern shore of Skogtjärn out on a cape.
