Bensåsleden - Garpenberg

Bensåsleden is about 19 km and runs in a circular loop from Garpenberg to the village of Bensåsen and the adjacent Bensås mine. At the mine there is Grandfather's place, which is about 80 meters long mining place you can go into. On the way back, the trail follows an old church path.

The trail passes many remnants of forestry and mining, such as mile sites and mines. It also passes through the villages of Bensåsen and Högtjärn, part of Södra Dalarna's pine forest, with many remains of crofts and traces of former farming. In the village of Bensåsen, the trail passes through pastures where animals graze in summer. It is permitted to walk through the pastures even then, but if it is not comfortable, you can follow an alternative route around the area.

The trail offers contrasts, where older remains meet new ones. For example, there is active forestry in the area, with forests of different types and ages, including recently felled. The trail also passes the modern mine in Garpenberg and the wind farm in Högtjärn.

The trail is marked with orange color on trees and poles. In addition, there are signs showing the way as well as information signs. The trail is mostly on path, but also some gravel road and inside the village of Garpenberg on asphalt. Some parts of the trail can periodically get wet, so good shoes are recommended.

There are several rest areas along the way. Shelters for overnight stays and barbecue areas are available at Finnhytte-Dammsjön, Stora Jälken or Morfars ort. At the start in Garpenberg there is also a charcoal hut that can be used for overnight stays.

At present, there is no toilet/toilet and no possibility to refill the water bottle after the trail.
