Tomtöspärren

In the 500 meter wide strait between Tomtö and Möcklö there is a pile barrier that blocked the entrance to Hallarumsviken at the end of the Viking Age. Perhaps the pile barrier was built to prevent intruders from entering the Store Backe burial ground. During the Viking Age, the depth of the strait was nine meters, which means that the piles, which are made of beech and oak, were up to 12 meters long. On Tomtö, where the barrage begins, there is an ancient castle. Blekinge Museum examined the barrier in 2023 and dated it to the end of the Viking Age / beginning of the Middle Ages.
