Ellenabbens batteri

According to the local population, the whole island of Aspö shook when they fired the m/16 here at the Ellenabben Battery.

The most powerful weapon that the Swedish defence forces had ever had stood in the centre of the open gun pit and weighed 135 tonnes. A projectile weighed 386 kg and could reach a height of 11,000 metres before hitting a target 20 km away.

Legend has it that the church on Aspö cracked once when the howitzer was fired.
