Kuvaus
Up on the mountain, the old pine forest spreads out and many trees here are almost 300 years old. In many places in the area, there are standing dead tree trunks that are probably much older than that. Bergby is a gem for both people and insects that love old pines.
Outdoor life
It's been a long time since extensive forestry ended, so there are many old trees in this forest. The dry and flat land invites you to wander through the sparse forest, although there are no marked paths or trails. The forest roads leading to the nature reserve are not open to car traffic, so visitors will have to take a longer walk to reach the area. But for those who want to experience a forest beyond the ordinary, a real gem awaits at the end of the walk.
Nature
The nature reserve consists mainly of a mixture of lichen-covered rocks and pine trees. Between the rocks grow hemlock and blueberry bushes. In the forest, the trees are sparse and there are trees of different ages. The oldest pines are up to 300 years old and there are also some old spruces. There are also small areas of aspen forest and swamp forest. The trees in the forests are full of life - even the dead ones. Whether they are dry, standing, leaning, lying or an ancient stump, many unusual and rare species thrive here, and one example is the relict dragonfly. There is also a small area in the reserve that suffered a forest fire in 2008 after a lightning strike.
